Lino, an aspiring film director captivated by the concept of the “martyr artist,” casts Helena, who seems to embody his artistic fantasy, as the lead in his first independent film. The film is an intimate exploration of the obsession with sacrificing everything for the sake of art. As filming progresses, the lines between reality and fiction begin to blur, and their on-screen romance extends into real life. However, as they delve deeper into their roles, both Lino and Helena find their own identities and moral boundaries challenged. Helena begins to realize that Lino only sees her through the lens of the character he has created, not as her true self. The film within the film subtly explores the ways in which we idealize the people in our lives, viewing them as secondary characters trapped in versions we’ve constructed, failing to see them beyond our own ideals and expectations. Lino and Helena, young, naive, and pure in their artistic ambitions, confront the thin line between creation and destruction in their quest to create a significant and deeply personal film.
