With just a camera and a few friends, Paul Conley travels to Nassau, Bahamas for the Junkanoo Festival. A New Years celebration that originated in 16th century slave days of the Bahamas, has evolved into a competition of colorful costumes, music, and dance as an expression of Bahamian tradition. Everett Obed, a drummer in Junkanoo Festival for the Roots Group, and a Nassau local, offers Paul, Adam, and Nick, not only a place to stay but a unique insight into the true Junkanoo world. With a behind the scenes view we can see how this festival truly captures the hearts of the Bahamian people. We follow the festival in its entirety, from beginning preparations, at the Shack, through the festival, to the highly anticipated result announcements. We learn that Junkanoo is more than just a competition, it is a uniting festival for the people of the Bahamas, and a true expression of what it is the be a Bahamian.
