“Bring the garden into town!” Under this motto, Transition Bamberg launches the first pick-your-own garden in Bamberg in April 2016. They are supported by Wilhelm Schubert, the former head of the ecological experimental vegetable cultivation company in Bamberg. He establishes the connection to the traditional nurseryman Heinrich Neubauer, who organises the field and takes over the first sowing. Together they share their knowledge with the participants of the pick-your-own garden in Bamberg. The interest in urban gardening is so great that all plots are occupied right away. The participants learn to grow their own vegetables – in organic quality. Soon it is about much more than just horticulture: How important is it to directly experience growing plants? What responsibility do we have in the production of food? For seven months, filmmaker Christian Beyer accompanies the development of the first pick-your-own garden in Bamberg and its participants. More than 30,000 additional photos provide an exciting insight into the project as timelapses. “Just do it now” is the international transition motto. “Reaping What You Sow” shows affectionately, which momentum can develop, when humans put this motto into practice.
