An Irish soldier regains consciousness having managed to escape from his trench as it was being bombarded by German artillery. Wounded and disoriented by a heavy fog he stumbles further into No Mans Land. Believing he has wandered into enemy territory and noticing the advancing Friedrich, a young German solider, The two men take refuge in a large crater waiting for the fog to clear. The two men face a dilemma when they discover they are surrounded by soldiers from both sides
