After a down-and-out podcaster is fired due to a rapid decline in ratings, he turns his attention to the mass hysteria myth of the 1938 radio drama “The War of the Worlds” to get his career back on track. With the help of his more successful yet reluctant friend, and a naive waitress/wannabe actress with dreams of grandeur, the trio set out to recreate a hoax alien invasion to cause chaos, go viral, and bring them the fame and fortune they desire.

From the trailer, I like the sound of the film’s premise: a War of the Worlds broadcast panic crisis for a modern generation. It does have promising ingredients to be poignant and hilarious for viewers who know about the original HG Welles/Orson Welles radio broadcast. I am sucker for the ‘filmmaking’ genre (movies like ‘Saving Mr Banks’, and ‘An Adventure of Space and Time’) and from the trailers of the ‘actors’ making the fake broadcast is easily the stuff I am looking forward to. Everyone seems very committed to the idea – in particular our main actors playing aspiring filmmakers who have no idea what the idea is behind the project is or where it is going , but they going along with it anyway. Which could lead to some funny jokes with its filmmaking scenes and the people’s reaction to it. Whether or not it is intended to be presented as a comedy is up for debate but I can potential in this premise going both hilarious and taken seriously for a modern audience.
