This first documentary devoted to Canadian-born star Jonathan Frid covers the fascinating life and career of the Shakespearean actor, who became a TV icon in the role of vampire Barnabas Collins on the gothic daytime serial, ‘Dark Shadows.’ Frid’s portrayal was a key reason the series, which ran from 1966 until 1971, became must-see TV for 20 million daily viewers and has been cited as a key influence for contemporary genre films and series such as ‘Twilight’, ‘True Blood’ and ‘The Vampires Diaries’.

A beautiful documentary about a man who was truly loved by his co-workers and fans. Mary O ‘Leary did a wonderful job on this tribute to Mr. Frid. I have learned so much about him and love him even more than I did when I was young and watching Dark Shadows. I wish I could have met him

Mary O’Leary and her creative team have created a perfect documentary of the enigmatic and charming Jonathan Frid! Having first been introduced to his charisma and talent as Barnabas Collins on Dark Shadows when just a teenager, I became addicted to the show and to Jonathan as many of us did, running home from school to watch and wait for the moment the vampire struck!! Little did I know that I would have the opportunity to meet him later in life through my former classmate at RI College, Mary O’Leary. Mary was producing Jonathan in a series of one person performances around the country and I was able to help her promote the shows in New York City. I had the great pleasure of getting to know him thanks to Mary. We dined and talked theatre, his passion. Never was I so pleased to learn that Mary had plans to produce and direct this wonderful film! I knew it would be good……but it turns out it is spectacular!! Congratulations to Mary, Jonathan and Barnabas!!!

A very enjoyable film that still managed to share some new insights despite its subject being a public figure for nearly 50 years.
