BECAUSE OF THE SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW WE STRONGLY ADVISE TO WATCH THE FILM FIRST.
‘MOTH VITALS‘ is an extremely sensitising, very short documentary film by director Nancy Wyllie. It follows two extreme cases of compassion for lower organisms that a veterinarian doctor met during his activity.
One of the cases refers to a dead golden fish that the owner asked to be incinerated and the ashes returned to him, and the other – you will be amazed! – is about the case of a client who asked the doctor to sew back the wing of a moth.
This is truly an amazing short documentary made out of almost nothing: a voice over and very few shots of the doctor, a moth and a gold fish. And still, when you watch it you will feel deeply touched and it will make you reflect on the higher importance of life. So the real issue arisen here is: ‘is the life of a lower being inferior to that of a higher being?. Life in the end is life! It cannot be categorised as inferior because through its nature, life itself serves to a great purpose. Any of those who are sensible to the manifestation of life in apparently its lowest stages seem to be connected to a higher level of understanding.
Director Nancy Wyllie would make anyone reflect on their own humanity with her simple short documentary.
